Palletcentrale is one of the largest pallet companies in Europe. As a freelance developer I evaluated their designer-made concept and built a fully custom WordPress + WooCommerce site with B2B wholesale features, WCAG 2.0 accessibility, broad browser support including Internet Explorer, heavy performance work, and tight SEO collaboration.

Palletcentrale is one of the largest pallet companies in Europe. Their existing website was outdated and failing to serve their business customers. A designer had already produced a fully custom concept; my job was to evaluate it and build it out.

Stack Decision We chose WordPress + WooCommerce. It gave the client an easy CMS to learn, connected seamlessly to their existing third-party tools through official plugins, and gave us a solid and extensible base for the custom B2B requirements. PHP, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript with Webpack as the build step.

B2B Wholesale Features - Wholesale pricing: tiered pricing for business customers ordering in volume - Dynamic/staffel pricing: unit price adjusts based on order quantity - Invoice requests for large orders: a custom flow for business customers to request a formal quote rather than paying directly through the checkout - Custom Ajax handlers: dynamic price updates and cart behaviour without full page reloads

SEO An SEO freelancer was brought in alongside me. I handled all technical SEO implementation — semantic markup, structured data, clean URL structure, metadata, performance — while the SEO specialist handled content strategy.

WCAG 2.0 Accessibility Full WCAG 2.0 compliance was a hard requirement. This covered keyboard navigation, focus management, screen reader support, colour contrast, ARIA labels, and accessible form patterns throughout.

Browser Support The target audience included a significant share of Internet Explorer users. The build had to work across a wide browser range, including IE, which shaped the CSS and JavaScript choices throughout the project.

Performance Webpack handled asset bundling and optimisation. Image optimisation, caching strategy, and minimising render-blocking resources were all addressed to meet performance targets alongside the heavy SEO requirements.

Responsibilities(3)
  • WCAG 2.0 accessibility compliance

Full WCAG 2.0 compliance was a hard requirement. Covered keyboard navigation, focus management, screen reader support, ARIA, colour contrast, and accessible form patterns across the entire site.

  • Broad browser support including Internet Explorer

Palletcentrale's B2B audience still included a significant share of IE users. The entire frontend was built to function correctly across the full browser range, shaping CSS and JavaScript choices from the start.

  • Technical SEO in collaboration with an SEO specialist

Worked alongside a dedicated SEO freelancer. Handled all technical implementation — semantic markup, structured data, clean URLs, metadata, and performance — while the specialist drove content strategy.

Key Features(1)
  • Custom B2B wholesale and dynamic pricing

Built custom WooCommerce extensions for wholesale pricing, staffel (tiered) pricing where the unit price drops with quantity, and an invoice request flow for large orders — all with Ajax-powered dynamic updates so the cart responds without page reloads.
